FAQS (Frequently asked questions)

DSC-3000 Control Panel

1.      I do not have a green (status) light. What does this mean?

If you do not have a green light, a zone light should be on, this will give you a more specific area to check for an open door or window. Once you have secured the area, you should get a green light. It is very important that you check ALL doors and windows. Many times our service department responds only to find a window or door that is open. Please check all doors and windows even if you normally never enter a room or open that door or window.

2.   My trouble light is on. What does this mean?

This can mean several things; the most common is a low battery condition.

To find what type of trouble exists on the alarm, press *2, then observe the zone lights (1 thru 8), these lights will light for several seconds which will indicate what type of trouble exists on the alarm system. Follow the list below to determine the trouble type.

Zone 1 light = Low Battery

Zone 2 light = AC Failure (Electric Power)

Zone 3 light = Day Zone Trouble

Zone 4 light = Telephone Line Trouble

Zone 5 light = Fail to Communicate

Zone 6 light = Bell Circuit Trouble

Zone 7 light = Fire Alarm Circuit Trouble

Zone 8 light = Loss of Time

If you have a Low Battery, you may either stop in our office to purchase a battery and install it yourself, or you call our office to schedule a service call.

If you have an AC Failure, check Electrical Breakers; ensure the Power Transformer is plugged in.

If you have a Fuse Failure, this will normally always require a service call.

If you have received a Communication Failure, you may call our Central Station to place your system on test and force a test to our office, once this is received, the trouble light should clear.

If you receive a Fire Circuit Trouble, this will normally always require a service call.

If you receive a Loss of Time, this happens after a total power outage, including Battery Back-up. If this happens, follow these steps.

Setting Current Time = *6 Master Code 1 then enter the current time (in 24 Hour Clock mode, also known as Military Time). Then press #

IE: To enter the time for 1:30pm, enter the following: *6 Master Code 1 1330 #

3.      I need to add or delete an access code. How do I do this?

You may have a total of 16-codes entered into your alarm system to arm and disarm the system. You will need to know which locations are already in use. The Master Code is in location 01.

To enter a code, or change a code, Enter: *5 Master Code, location number (01-16), enter a 4-digit code, #

To delete a code, Enter *5 Master Code, location number (02-16), **** (* 4 times), #

4.      What are the [ F A P ] keys on the alarm keypad?

Virtually all keypads panics that have monitoring service are activated. If you are unsure, please call our office. To activate any of these panic buttons, press and HOLD for 3-seconds and release.

6.      What happens if I enter the wrong code?

If you enter the wrong code, press #, then try your code again. If you enter the wrong code 5-times, the keypad will LOCKOUT for 5-minutes. There is nothing that can be done except for waiting 5-minutes. Do not press any keys while waiting for this time to expire.

7.      My Fire Alarm caused an alarm, and the Central Station did not call.

On alarm, (fire zone shorted) the bell output will pulse the signal to indicate that the fire zone has been activated. Alarm memory and transmission by the digital communicator is delayed 30 seconds. If the alarm is acknowledged, by pressing the [#] key before the 30 second delay has expired the signals will silence and the transmission will be aborted. If the alarm is not acknowledged and the 30 second delay expires, the fire memory latches and the transmission cannot be aborted. If after signal silence, the smoke detector is not  restored to normal, the signals will resound after 90 seconds, and 30 seconds after that, the communicator will transmit. If the signals resound, they may again be silenced, [#] key, and the communicator will be aborted if silence occurs within the 30 second delay period. To restore the smoke detector to normal, clear all products of combustion from the detector and reset the detector by pressing [] and then holding down [4] for 2 or 3 seconds. This action will remove power from the smoke detector and if it is clear of smoke, the detector will return to normal. If the detector is still in alarm, the signals will sound immediately and the above sequence will repeat. For an open on the FIRE zone, the keypad sounder will beep twice every 10 seconds and the “Trouble” light will show on the keypad. The communicator will transmit the trouble condition if programmed for trouble transmission. The audible trouble signal may be silenced by pressing the [#] key. To determine the nature of the trouble, press [][2]
